Tanya was an internal candidate without a degree, but one that showed promise and went through our internal pre-selection process.
Being the first Internal Graduate was worrying, and I felt sometimes like maybe I wouldn’t measure up to someone who is degree educated. Then a wise advisor told me, “Success on the graduate programme was not just about where you got knowledge from but also what knowledge you have, the experiences you undertake and the value you can add to the team.”
The graduates of 2018 ended up being a support unit for each other, a regular ear to bend when things got tough, and great for problem solving or brain storming.
I have just been appointed the site manager of Barrow MRF & Transfer Station. I manage my own team of people, being responsible for the P&L, managing, organising and developing the site, building relationships with employees, visitors and customers, and so much more.
It took a lot of my own hard work, patience and strength to get here, and I still feel I am adding to the team. Every day I thank all of those around me for the opportunities I have been awarded, and the encouragement they have shown.
