Thames Water listed as one of the Times Top 50 Employers for Women

Keeping gender equality a priority in these unprecedented times.

Thames Water, one of 19 leading employers behind Energy & Utilities Jobs, has been listed as one of the Times Top 50 Employers for Women.

To attract more women into operational roles, Thames Water introduced a gender decoder app, which changed masculine coded words like “competitive” to gender neutral phrases, removing all non-essential criteria; consequently, they saw an increase from 8 per cent to 46 per cent female applicants for technician vacancies. This year, they appointed a woman CEO and have set five-year targets including an increase in women’s representation to 45 per cent overall, and a year-on-year reduction in our gender pay gap.

Achieving a truly gender-balanced workforce means the sector must recruit and progress the best talent, irrespective of gender. Creating and developing a diverse and inclusive work environment is fundamental for the current and future success of our sector. It is essential for economies and communities to thrive and for businesses to be representative of the communities they serve.
